About Me

On this website, you will be able to hear some of the studio work I did in Portland , Oregon and you will be able to see videos of me playing jazz and blues guitar. I have been playing guitar for close to 50 years. Steve earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree at James Madison University in 1983.

When I was first starting , Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana were the most exciting and innovative guitar players in the seventies. I would later find George Benson, Wes Montgomery and Pat Metheny went deeper into harmony and chord voicing. Caribbean music also played and important role in my musical background. I played in many reggae and calypso ensembles in the Eugene and Portland , Oregon area. One of the most notable bands I worked with was Kukrudu , led by the Ghanaian drumming master, Obo Addy. I also recorded with a German composer, Klaus Roehm on his releases, Dr. Juju Faustus and The Stranger. Dr. Juju Faustus was produced by Chris Huston and Greg Ives did the orchestration arrangements  on both recordings.

I taught guitar at Jerry Fretwell’s Bass Shop in Staunton Va. from 2009 to 2011.
